# Telegram integration

CDelivery receives Telegram updates using long polling. Use a dedicated bot: enabling the channel removes an existing webhook, and another polling consumer can conflict with reception.

## Create and configure

1. Create a bot through BotFather and obtain its token.
2. Before CDelivery starts polling, message the bot and use the official [getUpdates method](https://core.telegram.org/bots/api#getupdates) to identify your own `message.from.id`.
3. Save the bot token in CDelivery's Telegram settings as an Admin.
4. Enter your numeric user ID in your personal account.
5. Open the bot's private chat and press Start. New bindings receive notifications by default; you can turn them off.

Use the sender's user ID, not `chat.id`, a username, or the bot's ID. Do not leave a separate getUpdates consumer running. See the [Telegram bot tutorial](https://core.telegram.org/bots/tutorial).

## Conversations and groups

Start with a read-only direct message after configuring a [model](/docs/guides/automation/models/). With privacy mode, supported group entry includes explicitly addressed commands such as `/cdelivery@BotUsername` and relevant replies. Telegram topics are not supported.

Keep bot permissions appropriate to its usage; disabling privacy mode is not required simply to use direct messages. The [official FAQ](https://core.telegram.org/bots/faq) explains bot message visibility.

## Troubleshoot

If updates stop, check token validity, outbound network, competing pollers, and webhook ownership. If only one user fails, check Start, the numeric sender ID, and personal notification settings.

Never share the bot token when reporting problems. Entering someone else's ID can expose your notifications and account permissions to that person.
